What options are there for pet odor removal?
Our family pets bring us years of fun, affection, and fond memories. It's hard to imagine life without them. Sometimes though, they leave us reminders that they are around.
Pet accidents are one of the most common problems we find in carpet and upholstery. Unfortunately, these spots are one of the most complex challenges in cleaning.
Many homeowners don't realize that just cleaning will not usually take care of the problem!
TV infomercials lead us to believe that the magical spray or solution they advertise will be a simple answer to the problem. Due to the wide variety in conditions, severity and pets, there is no simple treatment to every situation!
The varied circumstances of what kind of animal, how much it left, the amount of time left in the carpet and pad, and the physical condition of the pet are all factors that need to be considered.
The good news is it can be treated. With properly skilled, certified, IICRC trained technicians, advanced equipment technology, and proper solutions, we can restore your home to its proper condition.
Why are pet accidents such a challenge?
Pet accidents have 3 components to overcome:
- Odor - Which becomes worse with warmer indoor temperature, humidity or moisture. The carpet pad is what holds the most of the contamination and needs to be included in any successful odor removal program.
- Bacteria - If allowed to remain, bacteria will grow and makes for a contaminated area. The fabric or carpet needs to be sanitized, and the germs and bacteria neutralized and deodorized.
- The yellowish / discolored stain - As urine dries, it forms alkaline salts which attack the dye structure of the carpet or fabric and cause a yellowish color. Urine itself contains uric acid which is a dye. If left in the carpet, it can permanently dye the fiber.
